A legacy reborn
About Kroydon Golf
A Legacy That Refuses to Be Forgotten
Welcome to Kroydon Golf, a brand steeped in history, resilience, and a passion for the game. Born in the heart of New Jersey, our roots trace back to the hickory forests of the Carolinas and the steel factories of Pennsylvania, where we began a journey that has spanned generations.
Innovators in Golf Heritage
Pioneers in club face and steel shaft technologies, we revolutionized how golf clubs were made, forever altering the game’s landscape. Our commitment to innovation extended beyond the fairways as we shifted our operations during World War II, contributing to the war effort by manufacturing military jeep antennas.
A Legacy That Endures
Kroydon Golf embodies a legacy that refuses to be forgotten, discarded, or diminished by time. It’s a story that stands the test of a hundred years – a story of resilience, rebirth, and an unwavering connection to the essence of golf.

From Historic Roots to a Rebirth:
A Century-Long Journey Through Golf's Evolution
Early 1900s:
Founding Roots
Shortly after the end of WWI in 1918 parent company Kraueter & Company a manufacturer of tools founded in 1860, ramps up production of steel golf clubs under the brand name Kroydon at a time when golfers begin the slow transition from traditional hickory golf clubs to steel.
1920s:
Customization & Matched Golf Club Sets
Kroydon introduces consumers to the ability to purchase “matched” club sets that contained 3 woods and 9 irons combined for purchase for the first time. Prior to introducing matched club sets consumers collected clubs haphazardly often resulting in varied balance and different swings between clubs within a golfers bag. Matched sets would now allow golfers to have a more consistent swing for all their clubs and from one brand. Kroydon Matched Irons were chromium plated that would not rust, tarnish & were dentproof. Matched sets were not only related in looks like face markings, but also in shape, loft and lie. They were also matched in size according to length, weight, balance, whip, torsion of shafts & grips. Golfers with Kroydon clubs see their scores dramatically improve through the customization & club set matching capabilities of Kroydon.
1930s:
Pioneer in Women’s Golf & for Lefties
- Kroydon rolls out clubs for lefty players.
- Irons cost $6 and Woods cost $7.50 in 1938.
World Famous Steel Shaft technologies = American ingenuity:
Kroydon is the first club manufacturer to assemble shafts and heads without rivets using instead a patented method of construction that fused the shaft to the head.
Kroydon introduces the Hy-Power steel shaft quickly becoming America’s No. 1 golf clubs. It is the only drawn steel shaft in the world in 1938 that duplicates the shape and feel of hickory wood. Manufacturers in Scotland, England, France, Australia Japan and Canada purchase the Hy-Power shafts from Kroydon to improve performance of their own clubs.
Chopping bricks
Kroydon was the only golf club manufacturer offering irons with nick proof soles hardened so much they could cut a brick in half without damaging the club.
Rythem & grooves for swingers & hitters
Kroydon produces club shafts that take into consideration the fundamental rhythmic difference between a swinger and a hitter. Grooving shafts up near the grip for “swingers” and down near the head just above the hosel for “hitters”. This attention to individual golfer tendencies resulted in carrying the feel up the shaft, increasing leverage and improving timing for players with a more even rhythmic swing resulting in greater ball distance for players.
1940s:
WWII Contribution
Kroydon converts its manufacturing plant in Maplewood, NJ to produce military jeep signal antennas for the U.S. Army Signal Corps and for the British & Canadian governments.
Another Kroydon first with Kroydon’s Hy-Test Registered Balls being graded to compression with a thin ball cover and an innovative liquid center improving distance for golfers.
1950s/60s:
Popularity in Golf & Times
of Change
During the early 1950s there is tremendous sales growth across North America & Europe catering to everyday men, women, lefties & individual custom orders. Kroydon prides itself on not being an assembler of vendor component parts like some competitors in manufacturing of their clubs as Kroydon forges its own steel heads, shafts & its own wood heads from blocks of persimmon wood.
After a few short years in the early ‘50s, Kroydon Company based in Maplewood, NJ is sold to a Midwest based competitor after being America’s leading name in golf for half a century. The brand name is carried on through the 1960s under the new ownership.
